Clerk to the Local Governing Body

Bury St. Edmunds, Suffolk

Permanent – Term Time Only

Hours of work: 1 day per week – term time only

Salary: £30,000 a year pro rata

Suffolk Academies Trust is seeking to appoint a Clerk to the Governors to help support them in the vital role that they play in the Sixth Form Colleges in our Trust (One Sixth Form College in Ipswich and Abbeygate Sixth Form College in Bury St Edmunds). The successful candidate will have very high professional standards, considerable discretion and be highly organised, demonstrating integrity in all that they do. First-rate minute taking skills are essential and you will be comfortable in dealing with a range of stakeholders from governors, the academy trust, central and local government officials and a diverse range of individuals and groups within the local community.

We would like to hear from you if you are an experienced Clerk or governance professional, or if you are someone who can offer what we are looking for in these key areas and would be excited to learn and develop into the role with our support. You will need to be able to manage your own time effectively, be comfortable chasing busy people to ensure deadlines are met and confident in taking the initiative to find relevant information on behalf of the Governing Body. A flexible approach to working hours is essential, to accommodate daytime and evening meetings, as is your tact, diplomacy and ability to maintain confidentiality at all times. You will also need to be confident in the use of Microsoft Word and Excel and email and have access to a computer and the internet.

The post involves late afternoon meetings.

Closing date: Sunday 1st September 2019

Interview: Friday 13th September 2019

Suffolk Academies Trust is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. ALL staff are expected to share this commitment and to undergo appropriate checks, including enhanced DBS checks.
